1. Blues Society slates Cobbler's Coffeehouse (newsandsentinel.com) — Marietta music fans can catch award-winning blues saxophonist and singer Vanessa Collier at the Cobbler's Coffeehouse show on Oct. 2 at the Lafayette Hotel's Gun Room Restaurant. Sponsored by the Blues Jazz & Folk Music Society, her visit also includes educational Blues in the Schools sessions at local middle schools, though only the evening performance is open to the public with limited seating.
   

2. Esbenshade Series announces 46th season (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta College's Esbenshade Series is bringing five evenings of dance, music, and a music-history lecture to Marietta from October through March, with shows at Peoples Bank Theatre and Alma McDonough Auditorium. Local residents can catch Ailey II, a Grammy-winning historian, and acclaimed musicians including Richard Thompson, The Army, The Navy, and Ellis Paul.
   

3. Krivchenia receives native plant recognition (mariettatimes.com) — Volunteer-led work at Broughton Nature Park in Marietta is getting regional recognition, as local resident Mark Krivchenia earned the West Virginia Native Plant Society's 2026 Wild and Wonderful Award. His teams have been clearing invasive plants from park trails and collecting native seeds, helping native species rebound and making the area more inviting for Marietta-area walkers and nature lovers.
   

4. Denison shuts out Marietta on the road 3-0 (wtap.com) — Marietta College's men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 home decision to Denison, extending the Pioneers' losing streak to four matches. Denison scored all three goals in the first half, while Marietta generated chances but couldn't convert despite several late efforts on goal.
   

5. John Carroll tops Midwest rankings; Ohio State, Case Western lead Ohio among national universities in new U.S. News rankings (cleveland.com) — Marietta residents can note that Marietta College earned a No. 16 spot among Regional Colleges in the Midwest in the new U.S. News rankings. The story also highlights how other Ohio universities, from John Carroll to Ohio State, fared in both national and regional categories this year.
