Happy Tuesday, Marietta! Let's get this day started. Here's everything going on today in town.

Marietta historical tidbit of the day:

There are some very noteworthy people from here. Marietta is actually home to a former Vice President. Maybe the most prominent alumni, Charles Gates Dawes was born in Marietta in 1865. He went to Marietta College. He became Veep in 1925 for Calvin Coolidge. He won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work refinancing the German reparations payments after World War I. He continued to achieve and served various administrations on diplomatic missions, he even wrote a number of books. Dawes died in 1951.

  3. Local non-profit BrAva held its annual golf outing. They raised a lot of money this weekend for cancer research, and for local families struggling with childhood cancer. (Marietta Patch)
  4. Harmar Days are over. A lot of people came out and a lot of money was raised. However they are still trying to sell some more raffle tickets, the drawing for the Toyota Tacoma will be August 31 so you still have time. (Marietta Times)
