Marietta historical tidbit of the day:
Marietta was in quite the deficit after the great depression. The town was in such a hole that street lights had to be shut off for most of the evenings. After World War II that all changed and the city was flush with cash. The city fell back in need of money during the 50s when an outbreak of Dutch elm disease ravaged city trees. So the decision was made to create a city income tax.
