  • All-Out Rollout: This week Marietta work crews are hitting the downtown area hard for All-Out Rollout. This is a citywide program where crews will be filling potholes, fixing parking lots, landscaping, replacing street signs, updating the lighting, repainting crosswalks. "It's a huge maintenance program."
  • Public Works Week: This is National Public Works Week, and this is the first year that Marietta has an official Public Works Department. He says they're getting everything lined up in the department and when they do it'll be a well-oiled machine.
  • Operation Blue Sky: Mayor Schlicher reports that Operation Blue Sky was a success. He rode the parade route on Saturday night with Officer Robert Ritchie and said the amount of support from the public was encouraging. He said the 50+ cop cars took over 1 1/2 hours to drive through Marietta, Belpre, Parkersburg, Vienna, and Williamstown.
  • COVID Restrictions in Marietta: COVID-19 restrictions have all but entirely dropped in Marietta. With the governor loosening restrictions and the number of people being vaccinated, Schlicher says things can go back to normal. Today city buildings were opened back up entirely. There's no more mask mandate. That being said, Schlicher said it's on you. If you feel that you want to, or should wear a mask, that's entirely your call. "If you don't want to wear a mask that's fine, if you do want to wear a mask that's fine." The Fire Department is the one department that isn't completely open yet, but it will be soon.
  • Sewer for State Route 7: The city is looking at expanding the sewer system by about 1.5 miles past Reno. Currently, the sewer system ends near the Dimex facility. Schlicher says there might be an opportunity for economic development in that area, and a sewer line could be helpful.

Ongoing Projects

  • Improvements to the city's wastewater plant.
  • Various road and drainage projects.
  • The work at the aquatic center is ongoing, it should be finished in time for the grand opening at the end of the month.
  • There is work ongoing on the city cemeteries and the city parks.
  • The city is continuing to work on the planning and fundraising for the Start Westward Monument project.
