  • The DORA is now open for business. Mayor Schlicher said folks came out in huge numbers on Friday and Saturday to enjoy downtown Marietta. Folks will be able to drink alcoholic beverages out of designated cups every Friday and Saturday from now on from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Schlicher says folks were responsible and there were no issues.
  • The Washington School playground is closed for most of the summer. Schlicher says they're removing all of the playground equipment because it's almost all out of date. They will be putting in a brand new basketball court and bringing playground equipment over from Harmar Elementary.
  • This week Marietta work crews are continuing to hit the downtown area with the All-Out Rollout project. This is a citywide program where crews go street to street, filling potholes, fixing parking lots, landscaping, replacing street signs, updating the lighting, repainting crosswalks. This week they'll be focusing on Fort Harmar and the levee.
  • The first of the riverboats will be docking in downtown Marietta later this week.
  • The skate park is under construction and closed for the week while a group of committed volunteers work on upgrading it.
  • The City of Marietta will be hosting a cleanup days event. This is a taxpayer-funded effort to help residents rid their houses and or properties of junk and trash. More details here.
  • The mayor said they have some city commissions and boards that need people. The fair housing board is in desperate need of help. They only have two people, they need five. The city's Recreation Committee needs people too. The Tree Commission will also be in need new members soon. Schlicher asks folks who want to get involved in their community to help out. "It's not a huge commitment." Anyone interested should call City Hall (740) 373-1387 and ask for the mayor.
