City Honoring Fire Captain, Police Officer on Peace Officers Memorial Day
The North Canton Jaycees are excited to honor two city employees for their dedication and service to not only the city and its residents, but to the Jaycees as well.

The Jaycees will honor Capt. Gary Coen of the North Canton Fire DepartmentΒ with an Honorary Membership and Officer Mike Foltz of the North Canton PoliceΒ Department, a former Jaycee, will be given an Honorary Lifetime Membership.
The awards reception is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce.
The awards are in conjunction with Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Capt. Gary Coen

Coen was appointed as a part time firefighter in 1986. He was certified as anΒ EMT in 1991, he was promoted to full time Inspector, Firefighter, EMT in 1998. In 2003 he was promoted to captain.

In addition toΒ fireground supervision, Coen is a member of the Fire Prevention Bureau, is aΒ Certified Fire Safety Inspector and is currently assigned to head special projects. He isΒ also a State of Ohio Certified Child Safety Seat Installer and provides this service to theΒ public.
Officer Mike Foltz
Foltz began his career with the police department in 1982 asΒ an auxiliary patrolman. He was subsequently promoted in 1986 to special patrolmanΒ and then to full-time patrolman in 1992.
Foltz became North Cantonβs D.A.R.E.Β Officer in 1996 teaching in all six North Canton Schools 5th grade classes (about 450Β students per year). Β In 1999, Foltz started the North Canton G.R.E.A.T. summerΒ camp program which provides gang resistance education. Β
In 2012, the D.A.R.E. programΒ was discontinued in North Canton and Officer Foltz has resumed patrol duties and alsoΒ serves as one of the police departmentβs hostage negotiators. Officer Foltz was aΒ longtime member of the North Canton Jaycees and in 2000 received the Jaycee Officer ofΒ the Year Award.
