Shaker State Of The Schools Set For Feb. 28

Superintendent Gregory Hutchings will discuss the current state of the district and its plans to move forward during the event.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Shaker Heights Superintendent Gregory Hutchings will host the State of the Schools address on Feb. 28. The event will be held at Shaker Heights High School, in the large auditorium. The event will start at 6 p.m.

During the event, the district says Hutchings will discuss the current state of the school system and how the future of the district looks. He will also discuss how the district will move toward its future. Patch will highlight some of the recent issues the district has taken on below.

Shaker Heights Schools ask that attendees arrive early for the event. Parking at the high school will likely be at a premium, so you'll want to do your best to guarantee a parking spot.

Assuredly, the superintendent will discuss the possibility of a bond levy being placed in front of voters. The bond has already been discussed at a previous community meeting on Feb. 6, 2017 and, if approved, the bond would put $30 million into the district's coffers for repair projects at various schools.

Most recently the Board of Education released a statement reaffirming the district's commitment to inclusiveness and equity. That statement was prompted by recent national debate swirling around immigrants and their relative value to the nation and to the communities they land in.

The district has also formed an equity task force and asked parents of students in grades 5-8 to weigh in on homework loads. While those topics aren't guaranteed to come up at the meeting, parents will still want to make themselves privy to the district's going-ons.
