🌱 2 Arrested In West Toledo Homicide + Fasset Jr. High Lockdown

Here are the top stories in Toledo today:

  1. Sunday marked Toledo's 68th homicide of the year after 53-year-old William Williams was found dead in the Relax Inn in West Toledo. According to the coroner's report, Williams was strangled. Antwuan Lawson and Sara Bowlus-Houck, both 40, were arrested and charged with felonious assault. Bowlus-Houck was found with the victim's credit cards and other belongings. (WTOL)
  2. 53-year-old John Peterson was hospitalized and in critical condition after he performed a wheelie on a motorcycle and was struck by another car on W. Alexis Road. Multiple witnesses reported the incident, and Peterson was struck by a car turning left who could not see the motorcycle's headlight. (13abc Action News)
  3. The Toledo City Council will be holding a public safety meeting today to address the recent tragic shooting deaths of two 14-year-old boys. Damontre Mills was shot and killed over the weekend, and Jaylen Prior died similarly on November 22. Councilman John Hobbs III has stressed the need to instill value in our city's young people to prevent such tragedies from continuing. (13abc Action News)
  4. Fasset Junior High School in Oregon was locked down on Monday after two juveniles reportedly made threats of violence against the school. Multiple police units searched the building but did not find the juveniles in question, who allegedly are not students enrolled in the school. (WTOL)
  5. The Stranahan Theater recently received nearly $800,000 in federal grant funds from the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, a program established in part by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown through the Save Our Stages Act. The Stranahan opened its doors once again in February 2021, and the funds from this grant allowed the theater to retain all of its staff. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Mom's House of Toledo is seeking donations to assist young mothers and their children through the holiday season. The organization, which provides assistance to low-income mothers still in school, is specifically asking for household items such as diapers and food. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • On December 17, Owens Community College will honor outstanding grads at the December commencement. 459 associate degrees will be awarded at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the Toledo-area campus in Perrysburg. (bgindependentmedia.org)
  • Toledoans interested in providing aid to those affected by the tornadoes in Kentucky over the weekend can donate to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army. Toledo Fire & Rescue has sent a member of its Special Operations Bureau to Kentucky as part of the Ohio Task Force One team. (13abc Action News)
  • This Thursday the Dave White Chevy dealership on Monroe Street is hosting a food drive in conjunction with the Toledo Northwest Ohio Food Bank. The event will run from noon to 4:00 PM and specific items needed include canned goods and dry cereal. (13abc Action News)
