- U.S. Rep Marcy Kaptur named as grand marshal for Toledo's Labor Day Parade

- TARTA and the Lucas County Veterans Affairs Commission will offer free all-day ride passes to veterans and active service members

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:
- U.S. Rep Marcy Kaptur, a champion of unions and legislation that has helped labor standards, will be the grand marshal at this year's Labor Day Parade in Toledo. Ambassadors of the Toledo United Labor Council, Toledo Federation of Teachers, and American Maritime Officers made the announcement Wednesday at Maritime Plaza. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Orlandus Hearn Jr. has been sentenced to three years of community control through Lucas County Adult Probation on Wednesday for a fatal hit-and-run accident on August 1, 2021. The victim was 70-year-old Denise Frais and the crash occurred at Collingwood and Dorr Street. (WTVG)
- Tony Kushner, an Emmy and Pulitzer Price-winning playwright, will speak at the annual Edward Shapiro Distinguished Lecture on Sept. 20 at the University of Toledo. The event will be at 7 p.m. in the Doermann Theatre in University Hall with free parking and seating on a first-come-first-serve basis. (WTOL)
- The city of Toledo is hosting a gun buyback event at the Fredrick Douglass Center from 10-2 on Sept. 10 funded by the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office. Guns can be exchanged for gas gift cards and the event hopes to have at least a small impact on the number of firearms on Toledo streets. (WTOL)
- TARTA and the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission (LCVSC) is working together to provide veterans and active-duty military with free all-day ride passes. Those interested can visit the LCVSC office at 2595 Arlington Avenue or over the phone at 419-213-6090. (WNWO NBC 24)

- The National Museum of the Great Lakes is hosting its Freighter Golf challenge today to coincide with the LPGA Dana Open and features two 30-foot putting greens across the deck of the Col. Hames M. Schoonmaker museum ship on the Maumee River in Downtown Toledo. (WTOL)
- Jeep Fest and Columbia Gas volunteers assisted Connecting Kids to Meals in packing and delivering provisions to local children on Wednesday. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Perrysburg's Gathering Volumes bookstore is hosting its second Author Fair on September 11th from 10-4. Sponsored in part by Of Rust and Glass publishing company out of Maumee, the event will feature AYZO Heavenly Brew refreshments, games, and live painting sessions. (Toledo City Paper)
- On August 26 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will be offering special 'doggie doughnuts' for National Dog Day. (WTOL)
- TolHouse, a private members-only social club, is elevating the cocktail scene in Toledo thanks to high-quality and local ingredients. (Toledo City Paper)
