Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Darryl Lathan has been found guilty of murder, felonious assault and failure to comply for killing Armonte Rodgers at the Spotlight nightclub in South Toledo on May 16. Lathan's murder warrant was issued after he was already incarcerated for a non-related drug charge in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. (WTOL)
  2. Toledo Police Chief George Kral announced his retirement via his Twitter account on Monday. Chief Kral will serve until January 9, 2023 after a career that began with the Toledo Police in 1990. (WTOL)
  3. Former Toledo City Council members Tyrone Riley, Yvonne Harper, Gary Johnson and Larry Sykes will face trial beginning January 10 for accusations of accepting bribes while in office. The FBI began investigating the alleged crimes in 2018 and the four council members were arrested in 2020. (WTVG)
  4. Residents of the Chestnut Street neighborhood reported smelling gas for the past several months. Columbia Gas is aware of the situation and refers to the issue as a "grade 2 leak," which means it's not hazardous to a person's health. (WTVG)
  5. Devon Harris, 27, has turned himself in for the murder and felonious assault of a 3-year-old girl who was admitted to Toledo Hospital Tuesday and passed away Thursday night. Harris is currently incarcerated at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. (WNWO)

  • On Monday the Toledo Zoo announced it is caring for 8 new flamingo chicks. (WTOL)
  • Toledo Police responded to two shootings over the weekend, one on Friday and one on Sunday. Neither shooting was fatal and the investigations remain ongoing. (WTOL)
  • ConnecToledo is a group that aims to double the number of people living downtown in the next few years. (WTOL)
  • A man continues to be on life support after he was struck by a vehicle Friday night on North Huron Street near the TARTA hub in Downtown Toledo. (WTOL)
