Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:
- 32-year-old Christopher Bazemore has been arrested after threatening his child's mother and stating he would come to Wernert Elementary School with a firearm. The school, part of the Washington Local district, was placed on lockdown with the help of SWAT and K-9 units. Toledo Police and Oregon Police arrested Bazemore in his home and he faces charges of inducing panic, menacing by stalking, and violation of a protection order. (13abc Action News)
- 71-year-old Linda Kern was transported to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo by Life Flight after she went left-of-center on Ohio 600 Wednesday morning. Kern, who was not wearing a seatbelt, struck a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Jennifer Kirwen head-on after attempting to pass a commercial vehicle. A juvenile in Kern's car was not injured. (The News-Messenger)
- Several Toledo leadership groups are hosting one final COVID vaccine clinic ahead of the holidays. Sponsored by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Dept., the Movement, and Paramount, the clinic will be held at the Wayman Palmer YMCA on Saturday from 11 AM - 3 PM. Open to children and adults, those who get the vaccine will receive a present and get to meet Santa. (WTOL)
- The Lucas County Coroner's Office, the Zepf Center, and Midwest Recovery Center are all reporting an alarming trend of potent street drugs leading to record-breaking overdose deaths. 556 people have died this year, compared to 8 in 2010. Concerns for the types of drugs on the street, including fentanyl mixed with methamphetamine, are partly to blame for the numbers. (13abc Action News)
- A new program sponsored by the Lucas County Sherriff's Office and Aramark aims to offer inmates a chance to learn important skills for the food service and retail industry. The program is called IN2WORK and hopes to empower inmates to begin working immediately upon release from the Lucas County Corrections Center. Successful completion will earn the individual a five-year management certificate from the National Restaurant Association. (WNWO NBC 24)

- The Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women at the University of Toledo is accepting nominations for pioneering UToledo women now through January 23, to be celebrated at a ceremony on March 3. The event coincides with UToledo's 150th anniversary in 2022. (Press Release Desk)
- “Angel Trees” help make Christmas wishes come true for Lucas County foster kids. The trees are located at the Franklin Park Mall and are adorned with tags containing lists of gifts aside from toys that will help the children have happy holidays. Needed items include gloves, scarves, and hats. (13abc Action News)
