Blood Drives Coming To Westlake In January

WESTLAKE, OH — Market Square at Crocker Park hosted a blood drive on Dec. 27. Despite frigid cold, many residents came out to donate blood during the holiday season. The city recently announced three more blood drives coming up throughout the month.

The upcoming blood drives will be held at the following locations and times:

• Thursday, Jan. 4 at Westlake Porter Library, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.
• Thursday, Jan. 11 at Westlake Recreation Center, 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.
• Friday, Jan. 12 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.

The winter season is an especially desperate one for blood donations. One person involved in a car accident can need as much as 100 pints of blood, the American Red Cross says. More than 116,000 Americans are injured each year in winter road traffic accidents, according to the Safe Winter Roads group.

Less than 10 percent of eligible donors donate blood each year in America.
