MLK Day 2019: What's Open, Closed In Westlake

Trash collection won't be delayed, students are off from school, and a lot of museums are free on Monday.

WESTLAKE, OH — Monday, Jan. 21, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. All city offices in Westlake will be closed in observation of the holiday.

The Westlake Recreation Center will be open for its regular hours on the holiday. Westlake Porter Library will also be open and operating on a normal schedule.

The Westlake City Schools will be closed on Monday, though certain athletic activities will continue.

Trash and recycling collection will also not be impacted by the holiday.

The Maltz Museum will host a free, family-friendly MLK Day celebration on Monday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music, panel discussions, exhibition tours, crafts, and other activities during the day.

There will also be free admission on Monday at the following Cleveland institutions: the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Cleveland History Center, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Orchestra (though tickets are required), Great Lakes Science Center, MOCA, and the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame. There will also be free ice skating at the Wade Oval rink.
