WESTLAKE, OH β€” Officials broke ground on the new Westlake Community Center this month. The new facility will be located behind the Recreation Center building, closer to Center Ridge Road, in the location of the existing tennis courts. Officials expect construction to be completed by spring 2021.

β€œThe Recreation Center Grounds draw thousands of residents and community members for sporting and leisurely activities every year,” Mayor Dennis Clough said. β€œThe addition of the Community Center next to the Recreation Center Building introduces a campus-like feel to our already robust settings.”

The Community Center will house both community services and Fifty Plus programs and activities. The facility will be a 26,000-square-feet, freestanding, single-story building. The center will include a serenity garden, auditorium, multi-purpose room, classroom, a fitness studio, exercise studio, dining hall and administrative offices.

The building is designed around the exterior serenity garden, to maximize natural light. The center boasts floor-to-ceiling windows throughout its main corridor. Digital signage will be placed throughout to help visitors navigate. There will also be ample parking and sidewalks from the parking lot to the building.

β€œThe new Westlake Community Center offers our patrons and community a welcoming and safe environment to build fellowship, learn, receive assistance and much more,” said Lydia Gadd, director of community services. β€œWe carefully designed this building to encourage organized group as well as intimate gatherings, and the building also offers a separate entrance for social services clients for discretion.”
