📰 News we're reading

1. Part of Indianola Avenue to be closed starting Wednesday (vindy.com) — A brick-paved stretch of Indianola Avenue between Homewood and Poland avenues in Youngstown will close for about a week starting Wednesday so crews can investigate sinkhole-related sewer problems. Local traffic will still be allowed, and the city plans to repair the base, fix any sewer issues, pour new concrete, and then fully pave that section within the next month.

2. Texas man pleads not guilty in Austintown shooting (wkbn.com) — In Youngstown, a Texas man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to felonious assault charges in an Austintown shooting that cost a local man his leg. The case, heard in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, includes a continued $75,000 bond and a requested mental health evaluation as investigators release few details about the April incident.

3. YSU to present four-part lecture series about evolution of conflict (vindy.com) — Youngstown State University is launching a free, four-part public lecture series on military history at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor throughout the 2026–27 academic year. Residents, veterans, students, and faculty can explore topics like Indigenous resistance, cultural memory of war, social change, and environmental impacts of conflict during evening sessions with local scholars and discussions.

4. NFL to review 49ers owner Jed York under conduct policy following arrest (sportsbusinessjournal.com) — NFL officials are reviewing San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York under the league's personal conduct policy after his arrest in Ohio on prostitution-related allegations, with possible discipline looming. For Youngstown readers, the case hits closer to home because York also serves as CEO of his family's DeBartolo Corp., headquartered in Youngstown, even as he's stepped back from day-to-day 49ers operations.
