• Albany Fire Department aims to add nearly 500 inspections a year after receiving FEMA grants (dailydispatch.com) — Albany's Fire Department has secured two FEMA grants totaling just over $400,000 to hire a new Deputy Fire Marshal, aiming to add nearly 500 fire and life-safety inspections each year. As Albany and neighboring Millersburg grow, this position is meant to shift the department from mostly reactive checks to more proactive prevention in local homes, businesses, and industrial sites.
   

• Amtrak's new Airo trains launch Sept. 30 on the Cascades route (idahostatesman.com) — Albany riders will soon see brand-new Amtrak Airo trains stopping in town as they debut Sept. 30 on the Cascades route between Eugene and Vancouver, B.C. The upgraded trains promise more comfortable seating, better accessibility, faster Wi‑Fi, and a refreshed café, giving local travelers a more modern option for trips north or south without driving.
