• Engineers reject contract, authorize strike at Boeing (nwlaborpress.org) — Boeing engineers and technical workers have rejected a new contract and authorized a possible strike, a move that includes about 200 employees at the company's Gresham components plant. The union says members want stronger commitments and have deep concerns about Boeing's direction, so residents should watch for potential impacts on local jobs and operations this fall. 
• Darrel W. Spicer (portlandtribune.com) — Gresham residents are invited to honor longtime East County community member Darrel W. Spicer, who passed away in Gresham on August 20 at age 86. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home on West Powell Boulevard on September 12 at 11 a.m., remembering his family devotion, Christian faith, and decades of local involvement.
