Oregon DMV Rules Dementia & Alzheimers - DANGER TO PUBLIC!
Two ODMV rules about demented and Alzheimers Rules Which Endanger the entire Public
Do you know that of the three overlapping stages of dementia and Alzheimer's the only stage, according to ODMV rules that require mandatory reporting to ODMV by medical personnel is the "severe" and "uncontrollable" stage?
Mild and moderate stage drivers are driving freely in Oregon! Most mental health advocacy agencies recommend that even mild stages drivers should STOP driving.
Moreover, if you report a suspected impaired driver (whether for backing into a tree or for assault with a deadly weapon who deliberately tries to kill you with a car), your complaint asking for ODMV to examine the driver's fitness to drive will suffer a THREE MONTH BUREAUCRATIC BACK-UP DELAY, during which the driver in question can continue to drive. ODMV regulations do NOT ALLOW the more deadly or serious complaints to be examined first.

ODMV does NOT prioratize these complaints! It is strictly first filed, first served.
The Baby Boomers will soon reach the age of average onset of these diseases. They are a huge group! Of older drivers, only an estimated thirteen percent will get these diseases. That is still WAY more demented drivers than should be on our streets.

According to several members of the State Legislature the only ways to change these regulations are: 1) to put them on the Legislature's agenda for 2020, the soonest available agenda, or 2) to request a special bill be written and signed by Governor Kate Brown.
Please contact your local House Representative or Senator and ask that the special legislation by Kate Brown be written and signed soon.
