📰 News we're reading

• VOA Oregon to sell Portland homes, reinvest in new campus – Daily Journal of Commerce (djcoregon.com) — Volunteers of America Oregon is selling three transitional homes and putting the proceeds toward a new 6.5-acre Health and Family Services Campus on NE Glisan in Montavilla. With 100 planned treatment beds, recovery housing, childcare, and extensive outpatient services, the $125 million project could significantly expand behavioral health and family support options for Portlanders starting in 2029.

• Sightline Institute: Seven Lessons from Portland's Mobile Dwelling Experiment (theashlandchronicle.com) — If you live in Portland, especially Cully, backyard tiny homes on wheels and RVs are quickly becoming the go-to way to add housing since the city legalized mobile dwellings in 2021. A new neighborhood survey shows these mobile dwelling units have nearly doubled since 2020 and are now outpacing traditional ADUs as homeowners' preferred option for extra living space.

• With Mobile Solar Power, Food Banks Add Resiliency (foodbanknews.org) — A Portland-based Meals on Wheels program is quietly proving how solar-powered refrigeration can keep food moving to older adults across the Portland–Vancouver metro area, even during disruptions. After securing a grant from Portland General Electric and Oregon's Clean Fuels Program, the nonprofit built a fully electric, solar-cooled cargo van that now saves money, boosts sustainability, and could double as emergency cold storage in future disasters.
