• After a life spent largely on the streets, Portland shelter offered her stability (oregonlive.com) — Portland and Multnomah County are set to lose 1,100 shelter beds by year's end, forcing closures that directly affect people like longtime unhoused resident Patricia Ann Moore-Slater. After finding stability at the city-funded Reedway sleeping pod village, she's now been moved as pods shift to a new North Portland Road site, and she's urging city leaders to expand, not cut, shelter options.
   

• Washington and Oregon get first new Amtrak trains in decades (thecooldown.com) — Train travel between Portland and Seattle is set for a major upgrade as new Amtrak Airo trainsets roll out on the Cascades route, boosting capacity and comfort without adding travel time. Backed by recent federal rail investments, the cleaner, faster equipment could eventually support hourly departures, giving Portlanders a more appealing alternative to slogging up I-5 by car.
