Oregon Presidential Primary Results: Hillary Felt the Bern

Bernie Sanders has won Oregon.

While Hillary Clinton was narrowing the lead, it was not enough — not nearly enough,

As of Wednesday morning, Sanders had 54.05 percent to Clinton's 44.44 percent.

He had roughly 51,000 more votes statewide.

Sanders won 35 of Oregon's 36 counties Tuesday — losing only Gilliam. He lost Gilliam County by one vote.

In many of the counties, his win was in the double-digits.

He won Lane County by 18 points. He won Multnomah by 12 points. He won Baker County by 17 points.

Sanders benefitted from having made several trips to Oregon.

Clinton did not visit Oregon, but she did send her husband to the area twice in recent weeks.

Sanders also benefitted from getting more people to register.

The number of young people — under 30 — who registered increased by 21 percent over the past year.

Many had expected Sanders to do well in Oregon and possibly win, though a poll released last week by Oregon Public Radio actually had Clinton in the lead by 15 points.

It's not clear who the pollsters interviewed.

Donald Trump has also won Oregon.

He had 65.05 percent compared to Ted Cruz with 16.14 percent and John Kasich with 15.85 percent.

As Cruz and Kasich both dropped out of the Republican race, it was not unexpected.

Oregon does have vote-by-mail but the deadline to mail ballots has come and gone.
