A wind gust of 103 miles per hour was registered along the coast. Saturday is expected to be one of the strongest storms in years.

We made it through Thursday and Friday's not to be quite as bad but they are saying Saturday will be one of the worst storms in a long time. Welcome to fall in Oregon.

A high wind advisory is in effect and more rain is n its way. Forecasters are saying Friday won't be great but it won't be as bad as Thursday was - and not nearly as bad as Saturday is expected to be.

Schools throughout the state are closed for an in-service day Friday so that will be one less thing to worry about. On the other hand, high winds knocked out trees and power and more of that is expected on Friday.

Earlier, Thursday, the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Willamette Valley from 2:00 Thursday afternoon until 10:00 Thursday night. Gusts will be 35 - 45 miles per hour with an occasional gust up to 50 miles per hour.

"Secure any loose outdoor items which may blow away in the wind today," the National Weather Service Portland writes. "This includes trash cans and patio furniture."

The service says that pedestrians and cyclists should take extra precaution for falling branches. They also recommend thinking twice before parking under a tree today.

"All of these comments are even more relevant Saturday," the National Weather Service Portland says.

This is part of a series of large storms expected to batter the region through Saturday.

The rain started Wednesday night and continue until Sunday.

"While some of the specific details may change over the next few days, it is a good time to prepare for heavy rain during the second half of the week by ensuring drains are free of leaves and other debris," the Service posted on their Facebook page.

Winds on the coast are expected to reach up to 70 miles per hour on Thursday and up to 85 miles per hour on the weekend.

Washington County also issued an advisory with safe driving tips.

"Drivers should turn on vehicle lights, increase following distance and slow down," they say. "In the event of flooding, travelers should turn around, don’t drown. Property owners are encouraged to clear leaves and other debris from storm drains, gutters and culverts to prevent flooding."
Rain in the Valley is also expected to be very heavy.

The National Weather Service in Portland now says they predict between six and 10 inches of rain on the coast through Saturday night and 3-4 inches in the Valley.
