• Portland leaders overrule police oversight findings in key 2020 protest cases (katu.com) — Portland's mayor has accepted recommendations clearing former top police leaders of several misconduct allegations tied to 2020 protest use-of-force reporting, while sustaining findings against two commanders over training and authorization issues. The decision, based on a memo from Deputy City Administrator Tracy Warren, comes as Portland remains under a federal settlement requiring strict force-reporting timelines and as the city's new Community Board for Police Accountability begins its work.
   

• Northwest wildfire preparedness drops to Level 4 through Aug. 30 as resources shift (katu.com) — Wildfire officials based at the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center in Portland say the region's preparedness level has dropped from 5 to 4 as large fires shrink and containment improves. Resources are being shifted, but with thunderstorms and fire weather watches in parts of Oregon, crews remain on alert while major fires like Big Grass and Grasshopper continue to burn.
