📰 News we're reading

1. ODOT urges drivers to 'give yourself plenty of time' during I-5 closure (koin.com) — A two-mile stretch of southbound I-5 through Portland is now fully closed for about five weeks as part of the Rose Quarter Improvement Plan, and ODOT warns Monday's commute will be the real test. North and Northeast Portland neighborhoods should expect heavier traffic, so drivers are urged to practice alternate routes this weekend and rely on I-405 and I-5 northbound when possible.

2. Police respond to Portland protest over transgender athletes in women's sports (oregonlive.com) — Police were called to a heated protest Friday outside The Sports Bra on Northeast Broadway in Portland, where opposing groups clashed over transgender athletes in women's sports but no arrests were made. Demonstrators traded insults, alleged chemical sprays were used, and the confrontation spilled into a nearby Fred Meyer, with police saying they're still open to charges if more evidence emerges.

3. Your Chance to Win Tickets to Disney Descendants, Zombies, & Camp Rock Worlds Collide Tour from Danny Dwyer! (audacy.com) — You can call in to KWJJ-FM next week for a shot at four tickets to the Disney Descendants, Zombies, & Camp Rock Worlds Collide concert coming to Portland's Moda Center on October 6. The rules spell out call times, eligibility, and the need for a mobile ticketing app, so Portland families should be ready with phones and email if they want to win.

4. Feds sue River Pig Saloon owner, alleging $350K COVID loan fraud (kptv.com) — Federal prosecutors in Portland have filed a civil fraud lawsuit accusing the owner of River Pig Saloon in the Pearl District of improperly securing about $348,000 in pandemic relief loans tied to a closed Eugene bar. The case, brought under the False Claims Act, could leave him owing more than $1 million if the court finds him liable.
