Portland Timbers to host 12th annual 'Rose City Road Trip' community event presented by Providence (timbers.com) — Portland families can sign up now for the Timbers' free youth soccer clinic at Da Vinci Arts Middle School on Sept. 16, preceded by a player visit to Providence Portland Medical Center. Kids can meet players, get autographs, and enjoy an evening of skills, games, and healthy activity, but advance online registration is required by Sept. 14.
   

2. Proposal to update historic building in Portland land use review intakes (djcoregon.com) — Several new development proposals could soon reshape parts of Portland, including a three-story, 15-bedroom secure residential treatment facility in the Woodlawn Conservation District and a 10‑unit townhouse project on North Beech Street. The city also plans to repair and convert the historic Portland Visitor Information Center on Southwest Naito Parkway into a full‑service restaurant, with new landscaping and outdoor seating to improve pedestrian access.
   

3. Here's how crews are preparing for massive I-5 closure in Portland (koin.com) — Portland drivers face a five-week closure of all southbound I-5 lanes through the Rose Quarter starting Friday, with detours likely to push traffic into North Portland neighborhoods. Transportation crews are adding barrels, signs, and adjusted signals to protect school routes and calm residential streets, while asking neighbors to report problem areas so PBOT can respond.
   

4. Geek Week PDX: Exploring Portland's pop culture vibe (portlandtribune.com) — Portland is gearing up for Geek Week PDX, a 10‑day celebration of all things nerdy running Sept. 11–20 at more than 100 local businesses and venues across the metro area. From citywide art hunts and a fantasy fest downtown to a Warrior Princess Bash benefiting Doernbecher Children's Hospital, organizers expect up to 30,000 participants and mostly free events.
   

5. Medical examiner finds man Tased by Portland police died from self-inflicted wounds (opb.org) — Portland police say a man who was barricaded in a Southeast home and Tased during an attempted arrest died from self-inflicted stab wounds, according to the county medical examiner. The in-custody death will trigger an internal investigation and Police Review Board scrutiny, which Portland residents can watch for as details emerge about officers' decisions and crisis response.
