1. Portland deputy city administrator becomes latest high-ranking official to depart with 6-figure severance (kgw.com) — Portland's deputy city administrator for Public Works, Priya Dhanapal, is leaving September 4 with a nearly $222,000 severance, continuing a pattern of six-figure payouts to departing city leaders. As the city recruits for three top administrator roles amid ongoing budget strains, questions are mounting about why so many high-ranking officials exit with large "golden parachutes."
   

2. 'He had good character': Friend remembers Portland man who was killed in 'horrific manner' after being set on fire (koin.com) — Portland police are investigating a homicide after 54-year-old Anthony "Tony" Knights was found with severe burns in Waterfront Park near Old Town and died days later. Friends remember Tony as a familiar, friendly presence who often slept on a favorite bench by the river. Detectives believe the attack was isolated but are urgently seeking tips, asking anyone with information to reference case 26-241822.
   

3. Man found dead at Eastbank Esplanade after reported shooting in SE Portland (kptv.com) — A man was found dead on the Eastbank Esplanade walkway after a reported shooting in southeast Portland, prompting a homicide investigation and a closure of part of the popular riverfront path. Police say suspects left before officers arrived and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives and reference case 26-250218.
   

4. Body camera footage shows chase, standoff with armed suspect in NW Portland (kptv.com) — Newly released Portland police bodycam video shows an August 12 chase in Northwest Portland where officers pursued an armed suspect through a neighborhood near NW 16th and Overton. The footage, now under deadly force review, captures officers using a patrol car, drone, robot, and police dog before the man finally surrendered after barricading himself in a nearby business.
   

5. WATCH: Goats Hop on City Bus in Hilarious Viral Video (outdoors.com) — Riders on a Portland city bus recently got an odd surprise when two goats calmly walked aboard at a local stop before being shooed off. Security footage of the brief encounter has gone viral, with commenters joking it's far from the weirdest thing to happen in Portland. The animals appeared calm and no one was hurt.
