First, today's weather:
The sun is back and we've got a high temp of 83. Summer is still here.

Here are the top five stories today in Portland:
- Did you get the Amber Alert that went out to the Portland area Monday morning? If you haven't heard, you'll be happy to know that that had a safe resolution. Just before 7 p.m., police responded to Southeast 49th Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard, where a woman said her child had been asleep in a car when it was stolen. Police reported just before 11:30 p.m. that Yamilet had been found safe in the area of Laurelhurst Park. She was found still sleeping inside the stolen vehicle. (KPTV)
- Portland residents at the intersection of Northeast 7th Avenue and Tillamook Street are not happy. Despite being a residential area, drivers have been zooming by at highway speeds. To improve safety and visibility, the Portland Bureau of Transportation said it is removing a traffic circle and large tree at the Tillamook Street and 7th Avenue intersection and putting in crosswalks and bike lanes. However, neighbors fear these changes will only make things worse. (KGW)
- Portland Police have taken two men into custody in connection with a shooting on September 8. On Friday, September 16, police were able to take 24-year-old Charlie Hernandez into custody at his parole officer’s office. In addition to Hernandez, a juvenile suspect was located the next day. Charges against them include attempted murder, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. (KATU)
- The University of Oregon issued an apology on Sunday after video circulating on social media showed members of the Ducks student section participating in an offensive chant during Saturday's game against Brigham Young University. In video shared on Twitter, a number of people can be seen chanting "f*** the Mormons" before the chant trails off. Come on U of O, you can do better. (KGW)
- A climate change conference in Washington could bring some exciting changes to Portland. Attended by Port of Portland and Metro executives, as well as Governor Kate Brown, they discussed mitigating the effects of airport facilities, airport operations, vehicle trips by employees and passengers to and from airports and sustainable aviation fuel. But the more exciting discussion (for me anyway) was the proposal of a high-speed rail line between Vancouver, British Columbia and Portland. (Portland Tribune)

- Do you want to see Ross From Friends? No, I'm not talking about David Schwimmer, I'm talking about British producer Felix Clary Weatherall, AKA Ross From Friends. He'll be performing at Holocene to celebrate the release of his most recent album, "Tread." Doors open at 8 p.m.
- Vertical Pool presents the world premiere of "Tracer," an Antero Alli film, at the Clinton Street Theater. With recent advances in Russia’s remote viewing experiments, coupled with the measured use of their new designer drug C-9, operatives now locate their targets by entering their dreams. Tracers, the highly trained mercenaries of the Russian mafia, have also begun using this psychic technology to their own ends. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
- It's No Talkie Tuesdays at the Star Theater! Witch and Cowboy Productions is proud to present a new (mostly) weekly show at the Historic Star Theater – No Talkie Tuesdays!! Born in 1922, The Star Theater was originally a silent movie theater and 100 years later, we’re bringing back the "Old" to Old Town. Showtime is 6 p.m.
- Do you like your entertainment ... bendy? Then check out The Contortionist at the Bossanova Ballroom. "Take Warning and Danno Presents" The Contortionist (performing "LANGUAGE” and “EXOPLANET” records in full in two sets). With special guest Rivers of Nihil performing "The Work" in its entirety. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
- Kid Ferris will be playing at The White Eagle. KiD FERRiS is an artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist based out of Portland. He blends multiple styles to create a unique blend and genuine fusion of psyche-rock, hip-hop, indie-electronic and pop. Also performing will be Interro and Autopilot. Showtime is 8 p.m.
From my notebook:
- Travel Portland: "@cheeseandcrack is one part cheese boards, one part ice cream sundaes and all parts incredible! It's even better on the warm, late summer evenings. Locals: what are your other favorite spots to grab a sweet treat?" (Travel Portland via Instagram)
- Are you a Michael Jackson fan? Do you want to get your zombie on? Portland is looking for undead dancers. This is the 16th year Portland has participated in the annual Thrill the World event. The dance to Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller” is performed around the globe on the same day at the same time as a tribute to the late singer. (KOIN)
- Portland Art Museum: Anne Chu found inspiration in traditions as diverse as ancient Chinese funerary sculpture and modern-day puppets. This nearly 6-foot work — from a motley crew of 9 — resembles a haunted marionette. (Instagram)
- Portland is definitely known for its beer, but what happens when those craft brewers turn their talents to non-alcoholic beer? Half a dozen Pacific Northwest craft breweries are diversifying into making nonalcoholic beer. But instead of brewing bland and watery “near beer,” they’re injecting quality and variety into a space that used to be dominated by a few national brands. A swelling customer base is lapping it up. (OPB)
- Today is National Voter Registration Day and, as a person who is into politics, I would be remiss if I didn't send some message to encourage anyone reading this to vote and, if you're not registered to vote, to get registered. Democracy doesn't work if we don't participate. I don't care if you're Republican or Democrat, if you're conservative or liberal. We're all Americans, so get out there and vote. (KOIN)
