Police Name Driver, Cyclist Involved In Wednesday Crash

Police say the cyclist had been drinking when he crashed into the unlicensed, uninsured driver on Northeast 122nd Avenue Wednesday night.

PORTLAND, OR — Police have named the bicycle rider and driver and who were involved in an accident on Northeast 122nd Avenue Wednesday.

Southeast Portland resident Abdikadir Ahmed Omar, 35, remains in serious condition at a Portland hospital following an accident involving Northeast Portland resident Nicolette Ivy Duffus, 33, on June 21, according to Portland police officials.

Police say that on Wednesday night, around 9 o'clock, both Omar and Duffus were traveling south in the 2300-block of Northeast 122nd Avenue when Omar veered out of his bike lane and into Duffus' car, causing Omar to crash and severely injure his head.

Omar was not wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

Police have learned that Omar was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, and he now may be issued a traffic or criminal citation for his role in the crash, once the investigation is complete, police said.

Duffus remained on scene following the crash and received citations for driving while suspended, driving uninsured, and for failure to register her vehicle.
