Portland Veteran Honored Nationally for #StillServing

Portland veteran David Lowe's dedication to country and community has earned him recognition in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign. The campaign honors veterans who continue to serve in their community after active duty.

A U.S. Army veteran who served in Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq, Lowe knew that after active-duty service he wanted to spend his time helping other veterans. He went to work for the VA Department of Oregon and now spends his days improving the lives of Boise veterans and surviving spouses by determining what VA benefits they may be eligible for and assisting with the completion, submission and tracking of their claims and the appeals process when needed.

Lowe says his job is challenging, especially during the pandemic, but seeing the appreciation of those he helps makes it worthwhile. He recalls helping one veteran apply for and receive close to a $250 thousand dollars for a claim and says that since January 2020 the Portland service office has assisted more than 600 veterans with close to $33 million in benefits.

Lowe’s dedicated service to country and community led him to be chosen as one of the few VFW #StillServing Heroes nationwide. VFW invites all veterans to submit their stories at vfw.org/stillserving.
