Here are the top stories in Portland today:

  1. I've been talking a lot about the City Charter Reform ballot measure that we'll be voting on in November, but it seems that it's not as controversial as I thought it was. Nearly half of likely Portland voters say they’ll back a ballot measure to dramatically reshape the city’s form of government and election system, suggesting it's likely to pass, a new poll commissioned by The Oregonian/OregonLive shows. Yet voters are equally open to an alternate proposal for City Hall fixes not on the Nov. 8 ballot, the survey found. (OregonLive)
  2. And I thought door-to-door salespeople were annoying! Voters in at least four Oregon counties — Douglas, Klamath, Lane and Columbia — have complained to local election officials about people knocking on their doors, questioning residents and searching for evidence of voter fraud. Election officials across the country have received similar complaints about people hunting for proof that the 2020 election was fraudulent by going door to door. To be clear — it wasn’t. (KGW)
  3. One of the more controversial measures to be approved by Oregon voters has been Measure 110, which decriminalized possession for personal consumption of many drugs, including methamphetamine and heroin. RTI International, an independent, nonpartisan research firm has taken up the task to see how the measure was working. Bottom line: they have not seen any change in Portland’s calls for police service initiated by the public after Measure 110 was enacted. (Willamette Week)
  4. In political news here in Portland, City Commissioner Mingus Mapps announced Tuesday that he is endorsing Rene Gonzalez in the city council race. "This endorsement comes a month after the Portland Fire Union voted to endorse Gonzalez over the incumbent candidate Jo Ann Hardesty. Mapps points to Gonzalez’s history with advocacy, business, and law as part of his reasoning for endorsing him. Hardesty responded to the endorsement saying she isn’t surprised by the news." (KOIN)
  5. "In a month, Oregonians will have the chance to vote on a measure that could have some major impacts on gun control in the state. Measure 114 is on the ballot, after years of faith leaders and volunteers pushing for the gun reform to become law. The measure includes a permit-to-purchase requirement and it would also ban the sale of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, with an exception for military and law enforcement members." (KOIN)
