Oregon Cultural Trust Awards Record $4.5 Million; Six Mid-Valley Organizations Receive Grants (kykn.com) — Several Salem arts and education groups just landed major Oregon Cultural Trust grants, bringing new Spanish-language TV programming, expanded youth theater, and free or low-cost music lessons to local students. Additional funding will support Willamette Master Chorus's Veterans Concert and Willamette University's Theatre 33 festival, increasing affordable access to performances for Salem and Mid-Valley residents over the 2026–27 season.
   

2. How director shaped Oregon museum into magnet for world-class exhibits (statesmanjournal.com) — Salem's Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University has grown into Oregon's third-largest art museum under retiring director John Olbrantz, drawing world-class exhibits and visitors from around the globe. From rare Māori weavings to major Near Eastern and David Roberts shows, his donor relationships and curatorial vision have elevated a small college museum in Salem into a regional cultural destination.
   

3. $20M illegal weed bust leads to arrest in Oregon (alaskasnewssource.com) — A massive three-day drug operation in Marion and Clackamas counties, coordinated from Salem, shut down six illegal marijuana grow sites and seized more than 110,000 plants, 81,000 pounds of processed cannabis, 86 guns and cash. One suspect was arrested, dozens of laborers were found living in harsh conditions, and investigators are probing possible human trafficking and environmental violations affecting nearby communities.
   

4. Asante Staffing Battle Moves to Salem With $1.56 Million in Penalties (grantspasstribune.com) — Health-care workers from Southern Oregon recently came to Salem to urge lawmakers to revisit Oregon's hospital staffing law after more than $1.56 million in penalties hit Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Their push could shape future staffing ratios, enforcement rules, and penalty limits statewide, with any legislative changes decided in Salem affecting hospitals and patients across Oregon.
