Researchers urge towns like Seaside to invest in vertical evacuation structures and clearer escape routes so residents and visitors have a better chance when the next big quake and tsunami hit. 
• Clatsop County volleyball, soccer teams take to the court, the pitch (seasidesignal.com) — Seaside athletes are kicking off fall with clear signs of progress, as the Seagulls volleyball team shows major improvement under a new coach and Seaside soccer prepares to open its season at the Bend Soccer Showcase. Local rivals Warrenton and Astoria are also sharpening their squads, setting up some lively league and rivalry matchups for Seaside fans this fall.
