Drivers Running Red Lights In Abington Captured On Camera
Abington Police warn drivers to slow down or face $100 fines through the township's red-light camera program.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Abington Township Police Department has captured on camera drivers speeding through red lights and nearly causing crashes.
Abington Township has instituted an automated red-light camera program at three key, high-crash intersections to improve traffic safety. Drivers receive $100 fines for violations for running red lights.
Police has shared footage that shows real-life near misses captured by red light cameras.

"While no crashes occurred, each moment highlights how quickly a routine drive can turn dangerous when a red light is ignored," police posted on Facebook. "Traffic signals exist to keep intersections safe for everyone: Drivers, passengers, and pedestrians."

- Old York Road (Rt. 611) and Susquehanna Road (all 4 directions)
- Old York Road (Rt. 611) and Old Welsh Road (all 4 directions)
- Moreland Road and Fitzwatertown Road (2 directions: Eastbound Moreland and Northbound Fitzwatertown)
While police officers do their best to enforce traffic laws, they can’t be at every intersection at all times. Red light cameras are one of the tools that help promote safer driving and accountability, police said.
"Stopping on red protects lives," police said. "Slow down. Stay alert. Stop on red."
