4-Year-Old Shot By Twin Brother In PA Home

The weapons were reportedly "readily accessible" to the young children, authorities said.

PENNSYLVANIA — A four-year-old child was left in critical condition after being shot over the weekend by his twin brother in Harrisburg, according to authorities and police reports. Their father has been taken into custody and charged.

The incident occurred at around 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning at a local home, according to the Associated Press.

Fox43 reports that the child was found with gunshot wounds to the chest and left arm and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. According to PennLive, the boy's life was saved in surgery but his condition remains severe.

The father of the twin 4-year-olds, Phillip Woods, 49, left the weapons unsecured and "readily accessible" to the children in the home, police said.

Woods has been charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment, as well as firearms charges. One of the weapons found in his home had been reported stolen.
