Bank Of America Closing More Southeast PA Branches

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank has already closed 95 banks so far in 2023, with another 15 still planned before the year is out.

PENNSYLVANIA— Bank of America plans to shut down more locations in Pennsylvania across the U.S. by the end of this year, and more in 2024, as it continues reducing local branches.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank has already closed 95 banks so far in 2023, with another 15 still planned before the year is out, according to data from the Office of the Comptroller of Currency.

And as the Charlotte Business Journal reported, Bank of America “expects to reach up to 138 branch closures in 2024.”

The report identified 2 confirmed or planned closures of remaining Pennsylvania branches that were filed in 2023 with the comptroller.

This includes a closure earlier this year in Wynnewood (250 East Lancaster Avenue), and a planned closure at 2439 Welsh Road in Philadelphia, OCC records show.

Next year, a Bank of America located in a ShopRite at 3475 Aramingo Avenue in Philly is slated to shut down, the website shows. The branch at 3100 Garrett Road in Drexel Hill and the branch at 6 East Trenton Avenue in Morrisville are also scheduled to close next year, according to their listings on the Bank of America website.

A January 2022 Patch report noted that a trend toward online banking during the COVID-19 pandemic led to a 38 percent spike in retail bank branch closings across the country in 2021.
