In Pennsylvania, how much residents get back depends on numerous factors, including household size, income, how you file your taxes, and where you're located.

For a family of four in Pennsylvania that rents and that lives at the median income level, a maximum of $13,796 in incentives are available, the calculator shows. Thousands more ($18,116) is available for the same family if they are homeowners.

For a single person at the median income level, a homeowner would get $16,201 and a renter $11,881.

Savings increase for those who earn more and pay more taxes: $28,728 is available for a homeowner who is single and makes $100,000, while a renter at the same earning rate would get $17,180.

These are ceilings, however, and the promoters of the new law say that it is designed to have its biggest impact on historically marginalized communities and impoverished families. Small savings on things like home construction projects, heating, and air conditioning can go along way.

"Families in affordable housing units will benefit from resources to support projects that boost efficiency, improve indoor air quality, make clean energy or electrification upgrades, or strengthen their climate resilience," the White House shared in a memo titled "How the Inflation Reduction Act Helps Black Communities."

Incentives are eliminated once an individual or a household exceeds 150 percent of that area's median income.
