Hurricane Beryl Remnants Could Hit Eastern PA This Week: See Timeline

Severe heat will give way to more thunderstorms and rain as a major storm heads up from the Gulf coast.

EASTERN PA — Remnants of Hurricane Beryl will hit eastern Pennsylvania later this week, bringing thunderstorms and other potentially severe impacts after another wave of dangerous heat.

The greater Philadelphia region is under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the heat index soaring to 105 in parts of the region.

Storms will threaten in the early part of the week, with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. But the primary threat will come when the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, swinging through the Gulf coast Monday, arrives in the region on Wednesday into Thursday.

The forecast tracks the storm further west of the Philadelphia area, but forecasters warn that there's still an up to 70 percent chance of heavy rain to hit the state. Storms are forecasted for most of the day and night Wednesday and Thursday.

"The remnant low of Beryl still looks to track northwest of our region, keeping the strongest forcing generally northwest of our region as well," National Weather Service forecasters said. "That being said, still looks like we will have considerable coverage of storms particularly north and west of the fall line."

Around a quarter of an inch of rain is forecasted on Wednesday and Thursday, but higher amounts are expected in thunderstorms.

Philadelphia and the five county area are all within the National Weather Service's "marginal" risk for flooding on Thursday, which means greater than five percent chance but less than 15 percent chance.

Heat during this time could be limited too, as clouds may come in early enough to do so, forecasters said.

Chances for thunderstorms with heavy rain continue Friday into Saturday.
