2. Republican David McCormick is expected to declare his canidacy for U.S. Senate again, hoping to unseat three-term Democratic Sen. Bob Casey. McCormick, a former hedge fund CEO who was raised in Pittsburgh, is expected to make the announcement Thursday evening. (Read more on Patch.)

3. Pennsylvania's smoking ban could expand to casinos and bars under a new bill. Democrat Dan Frankel unveiled the new legislation, saying it would close loopholes in the state's Clean Indoor Air Act passed in 2008. (Read more on Patch.)

4. Convicted murderer Danilo Cavalcante was not listed on a Brazilian national system for a 2017 murder he was accused of in that country, a report said, allowing him to escape and make his way to southeastern Pennsylvania. Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison on Aug. 16 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Deborah Brandao, 33, in Schuylkill Township. (Read more on Patch.)

5. With gun violence a major issue in Philadelphia, the city's controller officer says nearly 200 firearms are missing from the sheriff's office. Of those missing guns, nearly 100 are service weapons, including dozens of handguns and several shotguns. (Read more on Patch.)
