• Standoff ends with arrest in Altoona (newportdispatch.com) — An early-morning burglary at FeFi's Convenience Store on 7th Street in Altoona turned into an hours-long standoff before the Altoona Police Department's tactical team safely took a suspect into custody. Nearby streets were blocked while officers negotiated, and the man, later identified as David Mooers, now faces multiple felony charges but was not found with a gun. 
• Amtrak sets debut for second daily trip of Pennsylvanian train (altoonamirror.com) — Altoona residents will soon get a second daily Pennsylvanian train, giving more convenient same-day options to Pittsburgh and Harrisburg starting in mid-November. State and federal investments are funding track upgrades and future accessibility work at Altoona's Amtrak station, with officials saying strong local ridership could pave the way for even more service down the line.
• BG boys golf piling up victories (altoonamirror.com) — Altoona's boys golf team placed seventh at the Wildcat Invitational in Latrobe, led by Brandt Hite's 83 in an 18-hole team score of 445. The roundup also highlights Bishop Guilfoyle's strong win in Ebensburg, Portage and Northern Cambria's golf results, and opening victories for Central Cambria and Central girls tennis squads.
