Many More Are Now Eligible For Montco Coronavirus Testing Site

More people can now be tested at Montgomery County's drive-thru coronavirus testing site. Here's who falls under the expanded requirements:

NORRISTOWN, PA — More people can now be tested at Montgomery County's coronavirus testing site, Montgomery County Commissioners announced on Monday.

Testing had previously been limited only to the highest risk groups, including those with severe symptoms and first responders who had known contact with an infected individual.

Now, the drive-thru testing site at Temple University's Ambler campus is accepting patients of any age with any symptoms of sudden illness, including cough, shortness of breath, fever, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, officials said.

The site continues to run "very smoothly," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Tuesday, allowing them to open it up to even more patients.

More than 1,100 Montgomery County residents had received tests at the site as of Monday evening.

The rest of the expanded testing requirements for the Temple site are included here:

  • First responders with symptoms of any sudden illness, or who may have been exposed to a patient with suspected (confirmed or not) coronavirus
  • A healthcare worker providing direct patient care who may have been exposed to a patient with suspected (confirmed or not) coronavirus
  • Anyone with known or suspected direct contact to someone with coronavirus
  • Anyone recommended by their doctor to get tested

Officials announced 23 new positive cases in the county Tuesday afternoon, bringing the county total up to 159. None of these individuals are yet recovered, though many are experiencing minor symptoms. The county has one death thus far.

The state has 851 cases and seven deaths all told, as of Tuesday afternoon.
