AMBLER, PA — On Monday afternoon, Wissahickon School District officials addressed the threat which led to a delayed opening of the high school this morning.
A social media threat was uncovered in a group text chat between Wissahickon High School students on Sunday, officials said. Students immediately reported it to the school district.
The district then worked with police through the night investigating the matter, and the two-hour delay was in place as the final stages of the investigation were completed to ensure the school was safe.

All teachers read a message to students at the start of the school day to inform them loosely of what had happened:
"Today, we had a delayed opening in Wissahickon, but it wasn’t due to weather. Whenever there is a threat or a message written that someone wants to hurt someone else in a school, we take it seriously. There was a threat made last night by a high school student. Our police and school leaders worked together to investigate the situation and needed more time to finish. This needed to happen so that we knew that our students and staff would be safe coming to school. That is why there was a school opening delay this morning."
It's not the first time in the past week that an alert student notifying district officials about something suspicious lead to an arrest. Early Friday morning, a drunk man boarded a Wissahickon school bus and then later wandered into the high school, before fleeing the scene and being chased down and arrested.

The two events do not appear to have any connection.
The district added that counselors and school psychologists were made available to students throughout the day Monday.
