2 Million Dime Heist Lands Federal Charges For 4 Philly Men: Reports

After a truck hauling about 2 million dimes was broken into and plundered, federal authorities have charged four Philly men in connection.

PHILADELPHIA — The great dime heist of 2023 has led to federal charges for four Philadelphia men, according to reports.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Rakiem Savage, 25; Ronald Byrd, 31; Haneef Palmer, 30; and Malik Palmer, 32, all of Philadelphia, have been charged with conspiracy, robbery, and theft of government money.

The charges stem from a mid-April incident that occurred in the Walmart parking lot on the 4300 block of Byberry Road in Philadelphia.

A tractor trailer truck hauling about 7.5 million dimes worth about $750,000 from the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia was broken into sometime overnight April 12 into April 13.

Authorities said $234,500 worth of dimes, roughly 2 million of them, were stolen from the truck.

They are accused of using Coinstar machines to turn the dimes into cash.

The Inquirer reports the quartet of men is also accused of robbing other trucks, taking goods such as frozen shrimp, refrigerators, and cases of tequila.
