City Avenue Lane Restrictions Coming To Lower Merion Next Week: PennDOT

Restrictions to effect lanes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Oct. 3 to Oct. 8, PennDOT says.

City Avenue in Lower Merion will have two areas where lanes will be restricted next week, according to PennDOT.

The transportation agency said work that is part of a federally-funded, $2.9 million safety improvement project will cause restrictions from at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 3 through Saturday, Oct. 8.

Stretches of City Avenue/U.S. Route 1 between between Wynnewood Avenue and 63rd Street, and between Cardinal Avenue and Lapsley Avenue in Lower Merion Township and Philadelphia will be affected, PennDOT said.

PennDOT work will restrict lanes on City Avenue/U.S. Route 1 between Wynnewood Road and 63rd Street next week.

The safety improvement project will upgrade 17 signalized intersections along City Avenue/Route 1 with a wireless communication system to better accommodate traffic flow, PennDOT said. The project also includes the installation of new pedestrian push buttons, traffic signal heads, pavement markings, overhead street signs, and 74 new ADA-compliant curb ramps.

City Avenue/U.S. Route 1 between Cardinal Avenue and Lapsley Lane will be restricted due to PennDOT work next week.

According to PennDOT, project contractor Armor & Sons Electric Inc. of Langhorne will perform various other roadway improvements on City Avenue/Route 1 including a new left turn and lane configurations at Cardinal Avenue to improve traffic and safety at that intersection.

The City Avenue Special Services District was responsible for initiating this transportation improvement project and advancing it by obtaining a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant for the acquisition and installation of new traffic-adaptive signal equipment, and financing the engineering design of the new signal system, PennDOT said.
