Community Rallies For Fallen Lower Merion Firefighter's Family

Sean W. DeMuynck, 35, died Monday after battling a fire in Wynnewood. Thousands of dollars have been raised for his family so far.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — After one of Lower Merion Township's firefighters died after battling a blaze Monday, members of the community are rallying to support his family.

Penn Wynne/Overbrook Hills Fire Company volunteer firefighter Sean W. DeMuynck, 35, died at 12:22 a.m. Monday.

He was found unresponsive on the third floor of a burning structure after going in to extinguish the blaze, according to the Lower Merion Fire Department.

DeMuynck was taken to Lankenau Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Now, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support his family.

"Please join us in raising funds to support Sean's family during this tough time," the fundraising page reads. "All proceeds from this fundraiser will be distributed to Sean's wife, Melissa."

As of Wednesday morning, more than $15,000 has been generated by more than 200 people.

Donations can also by sending a check to the fire company. Donation checks are to be made out to Penn Wynne/Overbrook Hills Fire Company with Firefighter Sean DeMuynck in the memo line.
