LMPD Cracking Down On DUI For St Patrick's Day Weekend

Police will be out in force through the weekend to prevent driving under the influence as many head out to celebrate the Irish holiday.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – As many prepare to enjoy adult libations in celebration of St. Patrick's Day this weekend, Lower Merion Police are warning the public not to drive under the influence as they will be out in force cracking down on impaired driving.

From Thursday, March 15 through Sunday, March 18, police will be implementing Impaired Driving Checkpoints throughout the Township.

This initiative is in partnership with a national impaired driving crackdown featuring intensified, highly visible enforcement activities using the tagline "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," police said

Sobriety checkpoints are highly visible, systematic method for stopping vehicles at a selected location to
determine whether motorists are operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

The sobriety checkpoints are funded by a PennDOT grant and are one of many tools used to increase public safety through increased awareness created by high profile enforcement, police said.
