Lower Merion K9 Unit Wins Explosive Scent Competition

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – One of the Lower Merion Township Police Department's furry officers recently came out on top in a regional explosive scent certification contest, according to Lower Merion Police.

K9 Rookie and Officer Jeffrey Seamans earned a 294.83 out of 300 total points in the United States Police Canine Association, Inc.'s regional explosive scent certification event on April 18, police said.

Rookie and Seasmans' score earned them the top spot in the event for the second year in a row.

The new team of Officer Stephen Patton and K9 Fearghas scored 261.50 out of 300. The duo came in sixth place in their first explosive certification event.

Twenty-two K9 teams participated in the certification from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, Lower Merion Police said.

The explosive scent certification consists of four events.

"The certification is important to the credibility of our department’s K-9 teams irrespective of their placements on the final score sheet," police said on Facebook. "This is a huge accomplishment and one that our K9 teams and our Department should be very proud of."
