Lower Merion authorities are clearing out homeless encampment and offer more stable housing after a machete attack on the Cynwyd Trail.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — After a homeless man was allegedly attacked with a machete by another homeless man on a trail in Lower Merion township, officials are looking to clear the camps and offer those living assistance.
Action News reports police and township crews in Lower Merion were out removing homeless camps along the Cynwyd Heritage Trail after a man was attacked with a machete in the early-morning hours of Tuesday, Aug 20.
Romeo Gagliardi, 25, was taken into custody in connection with an assault that occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday between the trail and Schuylkill River, police said.

He is facing charges of felony aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment, court records show.
The victim, identified as Aaron Cavanaugh who is also homeless, was treated on scene by Narberth Ambulance and taken to Lankenau hospital for further treatment. Cavanaugh suffered cuts to his head and side.
