Lower Merion Trash, Recycling Changes Coming March 5

Residents whose trash and recycling collections will be affected by the changes will receive notification from the township.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Lower Merion residents will see a change to their trash and recycling collection routes in early March, according to township officials.

As of Monday, March, 5, township trash and recycling collections will change.

Residents whose trash and recycling collections will be affected by the change will receive notification from the township by letter and by a Blackboard Connect phone call or email.

Starting Saturday, March 3, the township's webpages on trash and recycling collection schedules will show the new plans. The township said less than a quarter of residents will see a change in their collections.

However, many residents may also notice a different time of day when their trash and/or recycling is picked up, even if their collection days remain the same, the township said.

Residents with questions on the upcoming changes can call (610) 726-7144 for more information.

The changes aim to increase efficiency in the collections.

"This new, more optimal routing of refuse and recycling trucks will increase efficiency of the trash and recycling collection service," the township said in its announcement. "In the past, many homes had different days for their refuse and recycling pickups. Now, all will have the same day. At the same time, routes for drivers will become condensed—saving time for crews, and saving taxpayer money on gasoline, oil, and wear-and-tear on tires and the trucks themselves."

Residents are reminded that trash and recycling must be placed curbside no early than 7 p.m. the night before collections. Trash and recycling should not be placed at the curb later than 7 a.m. on the collection day, as well.

Patch will provide more information on the new routes and scheduled when it is made available.
