Raccoon Found In Lower Merion Had Rabies: Authorities

The Montgomery County Health Department should be contacted for any recent instance of a person or pet coming into contact with a raccoon.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Lower Merion Township officials said a raccoon recently found in the township was tested for rabies and determined to be rabid.

The Montgomery County Health Department confirmed Wednesday, Jan. 24 that the racoon, found on Glenmoor Road in the Gladwyne section of the township, tested positive for rabies, the township said.

The health department said anyone who has been bitten or scratched by, or had saliva exposure to a raccoon must seek treatment immediately to prevent rabies from infecting them.

"If you, someone in your household, or any of your pets have possibly had contact with a raccoon or any other stray or wild animal, immediately call the Montgomery County Health Department, Division of Communicable Disease Control at (610) 278-5117," officials said.
