Serial Cigarette Thieves Sought By Lower Merion Police

Police said the men seen here have been conducting distraction-style cigarette thefts at local stores. Call police with any information.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Two men are sought in connection with numerous cigarette carton thefts in the Lower Merion and surrounding areas, and now Lower Merion Police are asking for the public's help identifying the men who have been targeting local Wawa and Sunoco stores.

According to authorities, Lower Merion Police have been looking into numerous Newport cigarette carton thefts at local stores.

Police first notified the public of the pattern in early May after an incident at a Bala Cynwyd Wawa.

On May 6, one of the suspects asked for two cartons of cigarettes at the Belmont Avenue Wawa.

After the clerk put the cartons on the counter, the man asked for a cigar then the other grabbed both of the cartons and cigar, according to police.

The men fled the area in a small black SUV, possibly a Chevy Trax, police said.

These men have also committed similar thefts in various other jurisdictions, with all of them appearing to be committed by the same men and in the same manner, according to police.

The most recent theft occurred at about 8:23 a.m. on Sunday, May 27 at the 949 Montgomery Ave. Wawa in Narberth.

One suspect is described as a black man in his 40s with a bald head, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall with a stocky build and walking with a limp. The other was described as a 30 to 40 year-old black man with a medium build, bald head, and a beard, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall.
